When looking at the contrast on Vanity Fair we see the very girly look of black, white and pearl pink. Very glitzy and glam focusing your eyes on the main image mainly because of the contrast of black on white. The fact she is in the last third and practically most of her body is in the top two thirds where the eye is most drawn to also adds to the fact that she is the main focus. Gaga has her eyes pointing slightly downcast. This then makes moves us to focus our focal point on the text 'Style Issue' In bold lettering. The entirety of the Gaga issue is in a horizontal layout. This results in a illusion that there isn't much happening. However it does bring a sense of calm to the cover and a overall very girly feel. I don't think this would be focused on men. Since Gaga is on the cover we are lead to believe that this is going to be focused at girls and not guys. The stereotypical genre of female fashion and pop culture is also present meaning that guys are going to be less likely to pick it up. The angle of this cover is straight on. There is no change in angle or dynamic. It is very relaxed and very line focused so that our eyes are drawn around the page. The typography on this issue cover is very bold and girly therefore adding to the overall conclusion that this cover is aimed at the female audience.
On a very different scale we have The Source. This contrast of gun metal and blood red along with a very disturbing image in the middle of the cover really draws attention through the use of line. The contrast of the red draws your eyes to the gun through the use of line then that then draws you to the face of the man. The lines across the top of the page tend to be the first thing you scan over due to them being in the top third yet you do follow the middle third down due to it being the most interesting third on the page. This page would be more focused on men. It is very stereotypical in the sense of guns and hip-hop and with a male cover artist which would suggest that the main reader is a man. There is quite a low angle on this photo creating an illusion of a bigger head which is needed since the main focal point of the image is the head. To reduce the focus going anywhere else the creator has made the typography on the right hand side very small so that you don't look at that first.
